18 Months

We can't believe John Reid is already well past 1 1/2 years old! He did great at the doctor this morning. He is in the 75% for height (although  I'm going to re-measure just to make sure), 25% for weight and 50% for height. He LOVED the boy nurse and made sure he told him all he knew about baseball. When we ask John Reid "What do you call it when the bases are loaded and someone hits a home run?" John Reid responds "Grandie Slamie!" The nurse was so entertained he called more in to witness.

Often I'll see John Reid staring into space and ask him what he is thinking about. He looks me straight into the eyes and says something like. "Baseball. Hats. Bats. Hit. Swing. Grandie Slamie. Mitt. Pitch. 2nd Base. Ootball (football). Basketball. Shoot. Make it." He truly is obsessed with all things sports. This is the first of 3 major characteristics he shares with his dad. #1 they both love sports. #2, they both love seafood (specifically shrimp), Mexican food and anything spicy (he even ate Tai food lastnight). #3 they both have a habit of playing with the tips of people's finger nails. Although it's annoying at times, my heart does melt every time John Reid does this to me in the same way his daddy does! How is John Reid like mom? Let's just say we share a passion for verbal communication. Just like I did as a child, John Reid is constantly jabbering! He is learning colors (blue and pink are currently his favorite, pink because of mommy pink baseball hat) and can fill in the blanks very well with the ABC's and numbers 1-10. I overhear him trying to say both when he is playing alone. I noticed yesterday that he no longer makes any animal noises when we talk about specific ones. He calls them all by name and will make the noise when you ask. What a growing boy!

This weekend my rule of No Character Clothing was broken. I've always been against clothes with characters from things such as Winnie the Poo, Sesame Street and  Mickey Mouse. Chris and his mom made a trip to the mall with John Reid. When I greeted them at the front door I saw John Reid with one of the most joyful looks I've ever seen. Daddy and GiGi bought him a pair of Elmo Crocks! He thinks he can do anything in them. He's constantly trying to jump, dance and kick. Elmo Shoes (as he calls them) had to sit on the side of the tub at bath time and we put them to bed on the changing table while he sleeps. Too funny!  So, I am now that mother with a child sporting "character clothing!" I'll get a picture posted soon.

He's beautiful Emily! Congrats on such a sweet, smart boy! I hear ya on the character clothing - I too was defeated with the joy of a new pair of shoes - Madagascar in our case w/ Kaden! You just can't deny them when they are so enthusiastic, huh?
